New Facebook group "Hair Cares" helps bring together volunteers, donors and others supporting and using the hair boom effort:
"This group was formed to help spread the word about getting our salons and groomers to sign on to Matter of Trusts' Hair for Oil Spills Program. There are approximately 300,000 salons in America* and each one generates approximately 1/2 - 3 pounds of hair clippings per day. *Haircuts happen!* This is an invaluable resource for helping clean up the results of oil spill, completely natural, completely sustainable, and there are organic ways to turn the waste into compost. INVALUABLE. The only cost is a very little time and shipping, and there are multiple alternatives and possibilities to make that part easier too. Have several local donors to pitch in and ship collectively, designate a drop-off spot and take turns, ask local organizations or private donors to help with shipping costs, involve other local volunteer teams in the effort too. This hair is needed, can and will be used, and would otherwise just be waste. You can help. Please sign your salon or grooming studio up to be a donor here.
Individuals can donate too (I give friends free haircuts :)! There are rules for all donors on the same web page, and you will get more specific info (like your particular warehouse address) after you sign up.

This group could be used for things like sharing shipping locales and info, question and answer about this and other volunteer efforts, anything related to this specific goal: to help make a positive impact in a situation of desperate need.
Ask your hairdresser, barber, friends to all please consider helping with this. Let's see if we can get all 300,000 (plus the Groomers and Indies) to sign up and send hair. And please consider hosting a Boom B Q, donating other materials (there's FINALLY a use for old stockings!!!), volunteering in some other aspect, or starting a boom-building group in your area. If you want to help, but are not involved in hair in some way, please consider volunteering or donating time or money with some other organization. There is a lot of need and there is going to be for a long time.
Bless you!
